5 COMMON SALES MISTAKES TO AVOID
Everyone who owns business needs to be good at sales. Period! Great sales equal great revenue. There are they are abundant of resources of do’s when it comes to sales, but when you are selling, there are certain things you should not do.To be a great sales person, you just need to avoid these five common mistakes:
1. DON’T BE A YES MAN!
It’s good to do so but it is not good to do it all the time. Because if you say yes a few times, your customer will not know when to stop making requests. You should know that each one of those request made by the customer will not only cost you money, but it will also let them know what they are capable of being demanding and walk all over you. That’s not cool, at all. Know your customer before dealing with them. If there is tendency that the customer can be profitable to you, then play along. But if you know that the customer won’t be profitable for you from the start, be firm and say no.
2. DON’T SHARE TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
Too much information lead to confusion. And confusion leads to losing customers. Before you start selling, learn how to deliver messages in a quick and concise way so that it is easy to understand. Don’t use complicated English or excessive industry specific jargons to look professional because it may cost you customers down the road.
3. DO NOT OVERSELL!
If you are being too pushy, you will make your customer feel uncomfortable and they may end up not buying from you. If you show desperation, your customer will not be attracted to you. You need to be poised and relaxed with your sales methods and give them the opportunity to reject you. If your product or service is good, the person you sell it to will feel happy using it at the end of the day.
4. DO NOT LOSE SIGHT OF THE GOAL!
Always stay focused when making sales. Make sure you keep track of the time needed to get your message out as quickly as possible. If after that you have time, you can start talking about mutual interests, as this will build rapport and help create a stronger connection with your customers. Do not waste your time chit chatting about unnecessary topics about yourself but instead focus on them.
5. DO NOT TALK PAST THE SELL!
After you have succeeded in closing the deal, stop talking. There are a lot of sellers that lose deals because they keep talking after the potential customer is ready to become a customer. Sometimes when you talk too much, you might say something stupid and that will make them rethink their decision.
